Here are the highlights from Steve Kragthorpe's pre-game press conference for Louisville's season-opener Thursday night against 1-AA Murray State:
Kragthorpe said his goals heading into Thursday's season-opener against Murray State are to play clean and execute well, minimize turnovers and play error-free football.
Kragthorpe said that his biggest concern is depth, particularly on the OL. He said two true freshmen, Mark Wetterer and Greg Tomczyk are running on the second team with R-FR Jeff Adams, JUCO Abdul Kuyateh and Nick Borgelt. Only Borgelt has ever taken a snap in Division I ball.
Kragthorpe said that true freshmen C.J. Peake, a 6-2, 210 pound safety, and Doug Beaumont, a 5-9, 180 pound wide receiver, will play this season.
Kragthorpe said there will be lots of changes to the depth chart in the near future, particularly on defense. Those defensive changes, the coach said, will be dictated by the opponent's schemes and personnel package.
Kragthorpe said that QB Brian Brohm is throwing crisply, is completely healthy and is bigger and stronger than he was last season.
When asked who were the preseason camp standouts, Kragthorpe singled out defensive tackle Adrian Grady, offensive tackle Breno Giacomini and center Eric Wood.
