After Louisville's win over Marquette last week, Rick Pitino set out to see Luka Mirkovic, a 6'11, 220-pound center for La Lumiere (IN) HS. A native Serbian, Mirkovic didn't disappoint with the Louisville coach in attendance.

With Pitino watching last week, Mirkovic hung 37 points and 17 boards in a 78-62 win over the Couriers. A typical Euro-big man, Mirkovic is an outstanding shooter and has good passing and ball-handling skills.

"He was at our game (last week)," said Mirkovic's coach, Delray Brooks. Brooks played for Pitino at Providence. "They are recruiting him."

Apparently, Louisville is interested in landing another big man in the Class of 2008, perhaps as a replacement for Clarence Holloway, who isn't expected to play next season for Pitino's program.

"They don't come up unless they are very interested," Brooks said when asked if Louisville has offered a scholarship to Mirkovic. "I'm sure if Louisville is a place that he wanted to go there would be a spot there for him."

Mirkovic is averaging 25 points and 13 rebounds this season. With his season coming to an end Feb. 24, Morkovic's recruitment will take center stage. There appears no shortage of potential suitors for Mirkovic, who committed to DePaul last fall but has since opened his recruitment up to others.

"Luka is still wide-open. He hasn't decided on anything that he's going to do yet," said Brooks. "He's going to wait until after the season is over and sit down and assess the situation that he has an interest in."

That means Mirkovic will take some official visit to see where he best fits in.

"Once our season is over he will be taking visits," Brooks said. "Everybody that has inquired about him is in the mix right now. DePaul, Louisville, Marquette, Northwestern, Purdue, Georgia Tech - it's a pretty long list right now."

A native of Montenegro, Serbia, Brooks said he's seen some major improvements in Mirkovic's game this season – his only season at La Lumiere (IN) HS.

"He's gotten a lot better since arriving here in August," Brooks said. "He can really shoot the basketball and he has good hands for a guy his size. He's got all the footwork for low-post moves. He's a good basketball player right now and continues to get better."
