Mirkovic says Louisville visit ‘amazing'
Luka Mirkovic, a talented 6-11 senior from La Lumiere (IN) HS, visited Louisville and Marquette this weekend. Mirkovic, a native of Serbia, was in Milwaukee Saturday afternoon to watch Marquette's overtime loss to Georgetown. After that thrilling contest, Mirkovic made the trip south to Louisville, where he watched the Cardinals dispatch visiting Villanova, 68-54, on ‘Senior Day'. Mirkovic was amazed with his visit with Rick Pitino and Louisville Sunday afternoon. "The whole day was really amazing," Mirkovic said of his visit to Louisville. "I spoke with Coach McCarty and we had a little tour of the YUM! Center. It‘s really amazing – the weight room, the gym and everything there. The dormitory was great too." Mirkovic was treated to an emotional atmosphere in Freedom Hall Sunday as Louisville fans bid farewell to three seniors – David Padgett, Terrance Farley and Juan Palacios. "I talked with Coach Pitino a little bit and then we went to the game. The whole atmosphere and the whole day was amazing," Mirkovic said. "It was really amazing to talk with Coach Pitino, the best coach in college basketball. It was really amazing. He's a great person and a great coach. It was really a great treat meeting him." Mirkovic also had a chance to meet some of the UofL players. "I met a lot of the players and they seemed really friendly," said Mirkovic. "The guys were really great." Mirkovic also had nice things to say about his visit to Marquette. "It was great," Mirkovic said. "Unfortunately, Marquette lost but I really liked it and they had a good atmosphere also. It's a great school and I like liked it really." Mirkovic, who is considering Louisville, Marquette and DePaul, still isn't ready to name favorites even though he's visited all three of the top schools on his list of favorites. "Both schools have good things – I guess they are even," Mirkovic said of Louisville and Marquette. "I really liked both schools." "The visits have given me a chance to look at every single school more closely. I was really curious about how the coaches coach during the game and the fan support at each school during the game. It's helped me get a better idea about all the schools and it was a good experience for me." Mirkovic said he doesn't plan to announce his decision until April. He plans to make more visits this month, including official visits to Louisville and Marquette. "During spring break I'll probably visit a few more schools. I'll probably go visit Northwestern and DePaul again," said Mirkovic. "And I'll probably take official visits to Louisville and Marquette."
