Wentz considering Louisville after visit

Camden Wentz

Camden Wentz, a talented offensive lineman from Marietta (GA) Lassiter, recently de-committed from Stanford. Over the weekend, the 6-foot-3, 275-pound Wentz made a visit to Louisville and is now strongly considering the Cardinals.

Though Camden Wentz gave Stanford a verbal commitment last March, the standout offensive center still hasn't been admitted to the school. So Wentz decided last week to re-open his recruitment and consider other options. His first stop – Louisville.

"It was an unofficial visit and I came up with my dad," Wentz said of his trip to Louisville to see the Cards 24-20 win over South Florida last Saturday. "I had a good time. I like Coach (Brent) Myers a lot. I got to sit down with him for about 45 minutes before the game and talk about the possibility of me coming there. It was a good game. It capped off a good day."

Wentz doesn't yet hold an offer from Louisville and he hopes the Cardinals send one his way soon. With Louisville's top two centers on the depth chart both graduating after this season, there seems a strong chance the Cards will make a move for Wentz.

"I do not have an offer because I just got in contact with them recently," said Wentz. "Coach (Greg) Nord recruits my school and he called me last week and invited me to the game. Coach Myers seemed really interested and it sounded like they will (offer)."

While Wentz checks into other schools, he's still holding out hope with Stanford. Wentz is scheduled to make an official visit to Stanford in January.

"I still love Stanford but at this point in time it wasn't the best time for me to be committed," said Wentz. "(I) need to sit down and look at other (schools) that I might want to go to."

Louisville is definitely a school Wentz is considering. "Stanford, Duke, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech and Rutgers," are also being considered, Wentz said. "That is probably the top six right now," Wentz said. "Out of that group just Stanford has offered."

Wentz said he's made several unofficial visits to Georgia Tech. He's hoping to make some other visits before making a decision. "I've been to Georgia Tech a bunch because it's so close," Wentz said. "I'm hoping to maybe get to Duke. I'd like to go back to Louisville on an official visit."
