Cincinnati S/LB commits to Louisville

Tyon Dixon, a linebacker/strong safety from Cincinnati (OH) Colerain, told InsideTheVille.com last week that Louisville was high atop his list of favorites. Now, Dixon informs that's he made a decision for the Cardinals.

Tyon Dixon, a 6-foot-0, 190-pound linebacker/safety, verbally committed to Louisville late last week.

Last week, Dixon told InsideTheVille.com that he would probably wait until the middle of his final high school season before making a decision, but decided to move up that timeframe to secure a spot in Louisville's 2010 recruiting class.

"I made a verbal," Dixon said. "I did it Thursday and called and committed. I talked about it with my mom and head coach and just went ahead and committed. I didn't want to be waiting around on other schools and have Louisville pass me up and have somebody else take the offer."

Dixon, who also had an offer from Ball State, earned second team All Greater Miami Conference honors the past two years.

"Louisville's a good school and it's close to home," said Dixon. "It's close to my family but it's still away from home." Dixon had visited Louisville for a game last season and attended the Cardinals junior day this spring. "I liked the campus," Dixon said.

Last week, Dixon called up his recruiter, Louisville assistant Jeff Lewis, and gave him the good news about his decision to commit to the Cardinals.

"When I called he said he was excited and I had made his day," Dixon said. "He got me on the phone with the head coach right then. It was cool talking with (Steve Kragthorpe). He was excited when I told him. They were both happy that I went ahead and committed."

Dixon said he plans to take some official visits in the fall. "I'll probably visit Louisville because I committed," Dixon said. "That's the only one I can say now.

"Right now, I'm just focused on football now and getting ready for this year. I'll be back down to visit Louisville this summer, hopefully more than once."

Dixon said Louisville hasn't told him a definite position they want him to play. "They're looking at me at strong safety or linebacker," Dixon said. "When I talked with Coach Lewis he said the linebacker coach was excited about (me). So I'll either play safety or outside linebacker."
