Pitino hosting Top 10 juniors; fast-rising PF

It's shaping up as a huge recruiting weekend for the Louisville basketball program. Rick Pitino has lured a pair of Top 10 2011 prospects to town, in addition to one of the fastest-rising power forwards in the class, for unofficial visits. InsideTheVille.com has the exclusive scoop.

It's a five-star kind of weekend for Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals.

Mike Shaw and Wayne Blackshear, a pair of five-star prospects from Chicago, Ill., and Zach Price, a fast-rising power forward from Cleveland, OH., are on the Louisville campus for unofficial visits this weekend, Scout.com recruiting analyst Evan Daniels has confirmed through sources.

"It's really good news for Louisville," Daniels said. "They've been working Blackshear and Shaw hard for quite some time and it's always good to have top ten prospects visit your school. And then throw in Zach Price, who is emerging as a high-major big man and is expecting to have a big July. I think it's definitely a big weekend for Louisville and their staff."

As InsideTheVille.com first reported in early May, Louisville has turned the recruiting heat up on the talented Windy City duo this spring. Getting both Shaw and Blackshear on campus this early in the recruiting process is certainly a noteworthy coup for Pitino's program.

Wayne Blackshear

Mike Shaw, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward Chicago (IL) De La Salle, is rated the No. 2 power forward prospect in the Class of 2011 by Scout.com. He teams with Blackshear on the Mac Irvin Fire AAU program.

A versatile talent with excellent ball-handling skills and a smooth outside stroke, Shaw is a skilled forward with strong face-up skills. Shaw is rated the No. 10 overall prospect in his class nationally.

"I don't have a list of schools yet. Right now, I just don't know. I guess I'm considering all of the schools that have offered me," Shaw told Scout.com Texas website earlier this month. "The schools recruiting me the hardest are Texas, Florida, USC, (Illinois), Arkansas, Louisville, Michigan, (Indiana), Purdue and Marquette."

Wayne Blackshear, a strong, 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard from Chicago (IL) Morgan Park, is rated the No. 2 shooting guard in the his class behind only Seattle's Tony Wroten, Scout.com's top-ranked prospect in the Class of 2011.

Rated the No. 8 overall prospect nationally in his recruiting class, Blackshear has the skills to go strong to hole and finish and is also an excellent three-point shooter with deep range.

"I like their (Louisville) style of play," Blackshear said last month. "They get up and down."

Besides a pair of five-star prospects from Chicago, the Cardinals also received an unofficial visit from fast-rising 2011 power forward Zach Price.

Zach Price

Zach Price, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward from Cleveland (OH) St. Edward, emerged as one of the top rising players in his class last week after an impressive showing at the Nike Hoop Jamboree in St. Louis, Mo, a camp for the top underclassmen in the nation.

"Price has yet to build his reputation on a national level," Evan Daniels said. "But once he hits the floor in July that will change."

Price's recruitment has started to heat up this summer and he already holds offers from Michigan State, Ohio State, Wake Forest and Wisconsin. Miami, Florida and Xavier are also showing heavy interest.

"It's still pretty early," Price told Scout.com last week. "I'm keeping my options open. People think I'm all Ohio State and thinking I'm going to Ohio State, but I'm keeping my options open and looking at all of the schools to see which one fits me."

Louisville has scholarships offers out to all three of the 2011 prospects.
