Louisville stands out for three-star RB

Rajaan Bennett recently made an unofficial visit to Louisville to check out the Cardinals. The three-star running back from Powder Springs, Ga. has Louisville high on his list after visiting campus and spoke with InsideTheVille.com about his interest in the Cardinals.

Rajaan Bennett isn't in a hurry to make a college decision but the three-star running back knows he likes Louisville. The Cardinals are right at the top of Bennett's list along with Vanderbilt and Marshall.

"Louisville is my top school right now….one of my top schools right now," Bennett said. "I keep in contact with coach (Greg) Nord on the Internet when I don't have time to talk to him on the phone. Other than (Louisville), Vanderbilt and Marshall – those are my top three."

Bennett recently made an unofficial visit to Louisville – a visit that apparently strengthened the Cardinals position in Bennett's recruitment.

"The visit was great," Bennett said. "They're ranked high in my major and the campus is very nice. It just felt like a good place to be."

While on Louisville's campus, Bennett received a first-hand, up-close look at what it's like to play for the Cardinals. He saw Louisville's facilities and campus and the expansion of Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. He also got to sit down for a talk with Nord, Louisville's running back coach, and met several of the Cardinals current players.

"I walked in the weight room, talked to the coaches, checked out the campus and I talked to a few of the players," said Bennett. "They were telling me how great it was and how they picked Louisville over all the big schools that everyone hears about."

Bennett came away impressed with family-like atmosphere that he felt at Louisville.

"It was more like a togetherness-type family and everybody was together and saying the same thing," Bennett said. "I was there on the player's off-day and they were there playing video games and just having fun. I talked to them for about forty five minutes. Then I visited with coach Nord and he reviewed some of the things that I'm good at and he showed me how I can be just as good as the running back they have now."

Bennett hasn't scheduled his official visits yet and doesn't seem in a hurry to make a decision. Besides Louisville, Vanderbilt and Marshall, Bennett also has offers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kentucky and ECU.

"I'll probably set some of those (official visits) when my season starts," Bennett said. "I know I want to take one to Louisville and see one of their games and what the atmosphere is like. I really don't know the other ones right now.

While he's not ready to make a decision, Bennett knows what he's looking for in a college.

"My number one factor when I go to college is I want to play as a freshman and everything I do is to prepare to do that," Bennett said. "My second goal is to go to a place that is close to home. My mom is a single parent and I have a brother and a sister so I help her out a lot and if she needs me I don't want to be too far. And also education, I want a good education so I'll have something to fall back on."

How does Louisville stack up to his list of factors?

"Louisville fits those very good," Bennett said. "They're very high on my list."

"Right now I'm taking all the time I need to make my decision. I'm definitely going to stretch it as long as I need to stretch it."

Bennett rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns as a junior. The 5-11, 205 pound Bennett rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns in his team's scrimmage game last week and is looking forward to his season-opener in the Georgia Dome this weekend.

"We've got a pretty big game this weekend and start before everyone else," Bennett said. "We're playing the Georgia Dome. We play one of our rivals and basically it sets the tone for our season."
