New Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino is definately developing a pipeline in one of the most talent-rich areas of the country, in Tallahassee, Florida. Rickards High School stand out running back Kolby Smith (6'0, 200) is the fifth player from the area to commit to the Cardinals.

All ready committed to Louisville from the Tallahassee area is P Brent Moody, WR Todd Brigman, DB/WR Brandon Bradley and LB Willie Johnson, all from Lincoln High School.

Having familiar faces is one reason why Smith decided to pledge to Louisville.

"With the guys from here coming up there I know I'll be less homesick," said Smith.

Smith was initially recruited by Petrino while he was the offensive coordinator at Auburn, but when he left the Tigers, Smith became concerned things wouldn't work out.

"Coach Petrino was recruiting me at Auburn, but things didn't work out," explained Smith. "Then he got the job in Louisville and he called me. I was surprised."

Smith was impressed with the U of L campus during his official visit on January 10. "The facilities were really impressive and the all the players spoke very highly of the team," said Smith, who is fully qualified. "I also like how things seem centered around the college and how all the fans are very loyal."

Smith, 6-0 and 200 pounds, rushed for over 1,100 yards and 10 touchdowns in 8 games this season.

During our discussion, Smith told me that coach Petrino told him that he was only recruiting one true back and that he wanted it to Smith. He was also told that he would be given an opportunity to play right away.

Smith seemed excited when asked about being apart of a two-back set with current Cardinal running back Eric Shelton. "We can hit everyone with one-two combo."

In an interview with InsidersRecruiting.com analyst Jamie Newburg, that he also liked how Petrino developed Auburn backs. "I also saw how he used Ronnie (Brown) and Cadillac (Williams) and I liked that."

Smith considered Indiana and Nebraska prior to committing to Louisville.
