Wilkins still considering options

Reggie Wilkins

Reggie Wilkins, a three-star athlete from Shelby (NC) Crest Senior, has decided to consider his options after de-committing from North Carolina. Wilkins will make a trio of visits next month, including one to Louisville, before choosing a school.

Reggie Wilkins, an explosive 5-foot-9, 165-pound athlete from Shelby (NC) Crest Senior, has twice committed to teams in his home state, first to North Carolina and then to North Carolina State. Now, Wilkins has decided to take one more look at his recruitment just to make sure he is making the right choice.

"I de-committed from North Carolina and now I am going to take my official visits. I am going to Louisville on the 8th of January, then UNC on the 15th, and NC State on the 22nd," said Wilkins. "I have been to both UNC and NC State before but I am going to visit them again. I haven't been up to Louisville yet. I don't know much about them right now."

The Cardinals have been recruiting Wilkins since the summer and it appears the previous coaching staff has given Charlie Strong an assist.

"I talked to coach [Antonio] Goss about the new coach up there at Louisville and he was saying how good of a coach he was. So I am going to go up there and check them out," said Wilkins. "I am really just looking for the right situation. I want to look at the depth chart, and go to a school with good coaches and good players."

The emphasis for the Louisville coaching staff has been to go out and recruit speed and Wilkins fits the bill. Known as an electric athlete with the ball in his hands, Wilkins is the type of playmaker that the new Louisville coaching staff could use in the mold of former Florida standout Percy Harvin.

"Louisville is recruiting me as an athlete but I don't really mind playing on offense or defense really. If I had the choice though I would probably rather play on offense," said Wilkins. "I would like to have the opportunity to possibly play early as a freshman."

When asked to compare himself to a current player Wilkins gave a response that should be very familiar to the Louisville faithful.

"The main guy on offense that I try to be like would probably be number 1 for Cincinnati (Mardy Gilyard). That is probably who I try to play like," said Wilkins.

Wilkins is looking forward to making all three of his official visits before making a decision and did not indicate a favorite at this point.
