Georgia teammates ready to commit

Malcolm Strong and Chris Sharpe, teammates at Stephenson HS in Stone Mountain, Ga., visited Louisville this weekend and both told Charlie Strong they want to play for the Cardinals next season. Now the duo will wait to see how the numbers play out.

Malcolm Strong and Chris Sharpe, teammates at Stephenson HS in Stone Mountain, Ga., visited Louisville this weekend and both told Charlie Strong they want to play for the Cardinals next season.

Louisville, though, wasn't quite ready to accept verbal commitments from Strong, a 6'3, 230-pound defensive end, and Sharpe, a 5'11, 165-pound defensive back, this weekend. Strong told both recruits that the Cardinals are interested and that he plans to check in with their parents and coaches before signing day.

It went real good," Strong said of his visit. "I made a verbal commitment but Coach Strong said he's going to come down and talk to my coaches and parents about it. But I did say I want to commit."

Sharpe also said he told Strong he wanted to commit to Louisville.

"I told Coach Strong I wanted to be a Cardinal. He said we have to get his coaching staff down to Atlanta to meet my parents before we finalize anything," Sharpe said. "He said he didn't want my parents to think I was being pressured on my visit. He also said he was going to call my coach."

Both prospects enjoyed their visit to Louisville.

"I like the players, atmosphere, facilities, stadium, the coaches...everything," Strong said. "There were maybe about 15 guys on visits and it was real cool. I liked it."

"The visit went real well, I enjoyed myself," Sharpe said. "I like the new coaches. They seem like they're going to come in and change this program around the first year. They're bringing in all the right guys and I really enjoyed it."

Strong has official visits lined up with Marshall next week and Illinois after the trip to Huntington. "But I've already made my decision," Strong said.

Sharpe still has visits planned to Wisconsin, Middle Tennessee and West Virginia.

"Coach Strong is real straight to the point," said Sharpe. "He doesn't play around and he's a real cool guy. But when it comes to football he wants to win ball games. He's going to do whatever it takes to do that. I think he's going to be a real good head coach. I really did like him. He's an all-around good coach."
