, a 6-2, 190-pound outside linebacker from Port St. Lucie, Florida, will make an official visit to Louisville
this weekend. Rated the #48 outside linebacker in the nation, Rogers is a raw athlete but has been blessed with 4.5 40-speed.
"I talked to the special teams coach [Kenny Carter] last Thursday and got the visit set up," Rogers said. "I'm looking forward to checking Louisville out. I don't know a lot about the school but I know Coach [Charlie] Strong is a great coach and I'm interested to see what they have to offer. He's a great coach and met him a few times when I went to Florida for unofficial visits. I like him. He's a good man. He's an excellent coach. I'm curious about Louisville."
Rogers knew Strong when he coached at Florida and met him more than once on visits with the Gators. He is currently committed to Georgia but is checking out his options. He said Louisville is a strong option that he's giving careful consideration.
"I'm still committed to Georgia but I'm considering all the schools that I'm visiting," Rogers said. "I want to see who Georgia's new linebacker coach is going to be. I'm taking my visits and keeping my options open." Georgia head coach Mark Richt fired three defensive assistants, including new UofL defensive line coach Jon Fabris, at the end of this season.
Besides a visit to Louisville this weekend, Rogers plans to visit Mississippi State on January 29. He's also considering Ohio State and Cincinnati. Rogers made an official visit to Cincinnati last weekend and made an official visit with the Buckeyes during the football season.
"I want to fit in and be comfortable where ever I go," said Rogers. "The only thing I'm looking for in a school is how comfortable I will be there."
Wide receiver Steve Funderburk, a teammate of Rogers at Port St. Lucie HS, also plans to make an official visit to Louisville this weekend.
Deon Rogers, a jet-quick three-star linebacker from Port St. Lucie (FL) Treasure Coast, will visit Louisville this weekend. Rogers, currently committed to Georgia, has strong interest in the Cardinals because of his respect for Charlie Strong and is excited about his weekend visit.
