| The half brother of former Tide wide receiver Tim Bowens and of former
signee Quentin Bowens, Freddie will probably spend some time this year
helping to recruit his younger brother, all-around athlete William Roach,
from Brooks High School in Killen. Freddie is one of those players the
Tide staff was tempted to play last year, but he was redshirted. Now he
is filling the shoes of Saleem Rasheed at middle linebacker since
Rasheed defected for the NFL. Freddie finished spring practice number
one at middle linebacker, and he and junior college
transfer Derrick Pope are essentially co-starters on the inside. While Freddie is best as a tackler, he
also has fine hands and is capable of making interceptions.
