Omaha, here come the Cardinals.
The University of Louisville baseball team is headed back to the College World Series.
Freshman Nick Solak and senior Cole Sturgeon drove in three runs apiece, sophomore Anthony Kidston got the victory on the mound and Nick Burdi slammed the door shut in the final inning of a 7-4 win over Kennesaw State.
Burdi struck out two batters in the bottom of the ninth inning, the final one a nasty slider that struck out Bo Way and let the Cardinals dog pile just in front of the mound.
"Amazing," U of L athletic director Tom Jurich said with the Cardinals' celebrating behind him after winning in front of a record fan of 6,007 fans at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Added coach Dan McDonnell: "This is just so special what these guys have done."
It's the third trip in eight years - all under McDonnell - the Cardinals have made it to Omaha. U of L will be the only team in the CWS for two years in a row.The Cardinals will play the Vanderbilt-Stanford winner on Saturday in Omaha.
